Overview
Ideally, students should have a separate Windows account exclusively used to work on Learn and Earn apps (like Khan Academy and Duolingo), because their screen, webcam, and microphone are recorded during study sessions. See "How to Create a New User on Your Computer" for more details.
If you installed Learn and Earn apps and extensions on a different account by mistake and you need to remove them, or you want to verify that they're not installed on your personal account, this article has a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
Solution
You will need to repeat this process in each of the Windows accounts where you need to remove the Learn and Earn apps and extensions.
Step 1: Removing the extensions from Chrome
- Open Google Chrome, and click on the profile picture near the top-right corner.
- Click on the gear icon.
- Select the three dots on the 2hourlearning.com account.
- Select "Delete".
- Select "Delete" again to confirm. The Chrome profile will be deleted from Chrome.
Note: If there is no Chrome profile for the 2hourlearning.com account, this means that the Learn and Earn extensions shouldn't be installed either. You can verify this by going to chrome://extensions/ in chrome and looking for StudyReel, GoGuardian, LearnWithAI, and Alpha Data Collection to confirm they are not installed. If they are installed, try to uninstall them by clicking on the "Remove" button.
Step 2: Uninstalling the StudyReel app
- Go to the Windows Start Menu and search for "apps" to open the Settings.
- Open "Installed apps".
- Find StudyReel, click on the 3 dots on the right side, and select "Uninstall".
- Accept all the messages asking you if you are sure you want to uninstall the app. If it asks for your admin username and password, enter them (this is your Windows Admin Account username and password, the one you use it to log in to your computer).
- If you see a warning, just click OK.
- The StudyReel app should disappear from the list once it's uninstalled. If it still hasn't disappeared after 5 minutes, repeat the process one more time.
- Restart your computer to make sure the changes take effect.
Summary
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to uninstall the Learn and Earn apps and extensions from all your personal Windows accounts. Following these steps will ensure that your personal activities are not being tracked, and that we only collect data when you are studying.
FAQs
-
I don't have a 2hourlearning.com profile anymore but the apps are still installed, what can I do?
First, try to remove the extensions from chrome://extensions/. If this is not possible (for example, the extensions are greyed out and can't be disabled), contact us and explain the situation in detail. Include screenshots to expedite the resolution. -
How can I confirm that my activity is not being tracked?
We can only track your activity through Google Chrome extensions and the StudyReel app. If you don't have the extensions installed in Google Chrome (chrome://extensions/), and the StudyReel app is not installed on your computer, this means that your activity is not being tracked. -
I don't know my Windows Admin User Account password, what can I do?
Most Learn and Earn students use their own computer to study. This means that we don't know your Windows Admin User Account password, and can't help you recover it.
You may be able to resolve the issue by reviewing specialized help forums and information online, but we can't guarantee the methods are safe or will work. For example, this page, and this page.
