Overview
Sometimes, you will see that when you open the recommendations on Dash, they take you to skills that are already "mastered", or it seems that the recommendations you already completed don't disappear from Dash.
Don't worry, this is usually normal, and this article will explain why this happens.
Solution
There are different reasons why a skill will appear as "Mastered" on Khan Academy. The most important rule to remember is: If the recommendation is on Dash, work on it and master it, don't skip it.
These are the main reasons why this happens:
- In Khan Academy, if you answer a question correctly in a Test or Quiz, any related individual lessons in that course will also be marked as "Mastered". So, when you get that individual lesson on your Dash list and open it in Khan Academy, it looks like you already mastered it, even if you've never worked on it before.
- You still need to work on the individual lesson that Dash shows you. New lessons on Dash will still count as mastered levels for badges even if they appear to be already mastered when you open them in Khan Academy.
- In Khan Academy, you need to get all answers right to pass your Lessons, Quizzes, and Tests. If you complete a Lesson, Quiz, or Test but you had incorrect answers, it will not be removed from Dash, until you pass it with all answers right at least once.
- The only exception are special long tests called "course challenges". If you get a recommendation called "course challenge", you only need a score of 90 or higher to pass, so you can get some answers wrong and still pass.
- Getting all answers right on a Lesson will give you the grade "Proficient" with a score of 80 on Dash, and this is enough to get a mastered level for a badge.
- In Khan Academy, some extra lessons may be added to Dash after you get a question wrong in a Test or Quiz. You need to complete these extra lessons before trying the Test or Quiz again, because they will help you learn the knowledge you need the most.
- Sometimes, these are lessons that you already completed before, so they will not give you a new mastered level for a badge (only new lessons count for badges). But remember: You still need to complete them because they are an important part of the learning process, so don't skip them!
