Understanding the "Rushing" Anti-Pattern in IXL for Students

  1. Quick Wrong Answers: If you quickly answer 3 questions wrongly and you spend very little time on them, the system checks how many answers you've gotten right so far.

  2. Time Check:

    • 5 seconds: This is for older students, like those in grade 6 and above.
    • 2 seconds: This is for younger students, in grades below 6.
  3. Right Answers Check: If less than 8 out of 10 of your answers are right when you're answering super fast, the system thinks you might be rushing.

Note: IXL only looks at the time you spend on wrong answers. It's okay to be fast on right ones!

Example:

Let's say you're answering 10 questions. You get Q1, Q4, and Q10 wrong and you're super fast on them. If you only get 7 out of those 10 questions right, the system thinks you might be rushing on Q10.

Conclusion: If you're moving too fast, it's a good idea to slow down and think more about each question. This way, you'll learn better!
