Tests are here! As part of the "Learn and Earn" (LnE) program, students are required to take tests from time to time. You may be wondering, "Are there additional benefits for taking tests?" And the answer is yes!

This article explains the reward system for tests, so look no further, and happy learning!

Besides making sure that students are learning effectively and at the right level, standardized tests from Dash grant the following benefits:  

1. Mastered tests award $10. The passing score is 90% or higher. 
2. Failed tests award $5. 
3. Invalid tests don't grant any rewards. A test can be considered invalid if there are technical issues (for example, the webcam was covered or not working, or StudyReel didn't record the screen), any kind of cheating is detected, etc. 

What happens if a student fails a test? 

• If a student fails a test, they will receive additional lessons called "Knowledge Gaps". The student needs to master all these Knowledge Gaps lessons to make sure they are ready to retake the test. 
• Usually, the Knowledge Gaps lessons are units that the student mastered in the past, and they will not grant a 2H badge (a 2H badge can only be granted the first time a lesson is mastered). 
• However, once the following test is mastered, the student will be awarded $1.25 for every day in which they met the requirements for a 2H badge while working on their Knowledge Gap lessons, as long as they pass the test. Additionally, they will receive the standard $10 for passing the test! 
  • Remember, the requirements to get a Khan Academy 2H badge are: 
    1. At least 25 minutes of active work tracked. 
    2. At least 80% accuracy overall. 
    3. At least 1 lesson mastered. 

Note: The rewards listed above are for standardized tests taken in Edulastic (Pear Assessment). Students may receive smaller "Tests" and "Quizzes" in Khan Academy and Duolingo too, but those are part of their corresponding courses and only grant regular rewards/badges. 

Summary

The reward system for LnE students is designed to motivate and encourage learning. Mastered tests award $10, failed tests award $5, and invalid tests do not award any money. 

Knowledge Gap lessons are assigned if a test is failed and usually don't grant 2H sessions. However, students are retroactively awarded for meeting the 2h session requirements during this time if they pass the next test. 

FAQs

1. What happens if the student fails the test?
   The student will still be awarded $5, and they will have to complete extra lessons on Dash. After they are completed, a new test will be assigned. If the student passes the test, they will get $10 and $1.25 for every day in which they meet the criteria for a badge while working in their Knowledge Gap lessons. 
2. Can parents help the students with the tests?
   No. The only help allowed is to help reading the questions out loud if the child still can’t read. Any suggestions from the parent, discussion of the question and answers, or any other external assistance will invalidate the test. 
3. Can I use apps and tools to help me with the test?
   No. You are not allowed to use any auxiliary tools such as a telephone, calculator, paper, or pen. You can only use the functionalities available directly in the Edulastic interface.
