Overview
Some users of Khan Academy have reported confusion when they receive a recommendation for a skill via Dash that they have already mastered according to Khan Academy's system.
This happens because Khan Academy has a different understanding of 'Mastered' than Dash, meaning that Dash will keep recommending skills that have been 'Mastered' according to Khan.
Solution
Many differences may cause this discrepancy, but the golden rule should be: If Dash recommends something, take it! Do not skip your recommendations.
The most common causes of confusion are:
- Dash requires a Khan Quiz or Test's accuracy to be 100% (no wrong questions).
- Do not confuse this with "Course challenges" (longer units, typically at the end of Khan Academy courses - you may think of them as a longer version of tests/quizzes).
- Dash only requires an accuracy of ≥90% to consider "Course challenges" mastered.
- You cannot miss the question when a mastered skill appears in a new Khan Quiz or Test.
- Missing a question about a mastered skill means a knowledge gap was found.
- So, this has two consequences:
- The old skill will be added to Dash, and you must remaster it.
- Retaking the Khan Quiz or Test until 100% accuracy is achieved per the previous rule.
- Reminder: Mastering a skill for a second time won't grant new mastery badges in Dash.
- Khan Academy will display skills as mastered when they are part of a Quiz or Test but Dash will still require you to take it.
- In this case, completion will give you a new mastery badge in Dash.
- Dash won't consider it a second mastery if you never mastered it.
